Thanks to the volunteers who have contributed data to the Australasian Regional Anaesthesia Collaboration (ARAC)
the foundation for a large clinical registry of regional anaesthesia has been formed. From 2010, the project will be titled
the AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND REGISTRY OF REGIONAL ANAESTHESIA (AURORA).
The goal of the registry is to build on the multi-centre collaborative network established by ARAC and aims
to report on factors that impact on the quality and safety of peripheral nerve blockade in contemporary anaesthesia practice.
The term “registry” implies that we are capturing information on all patients receiving all blocks performed by all anaesthetists at each centre.
This complete capture of patients and procedures together with direct follow-up of all patients are key strengths of the project.
AURORA has a core data set, but aims to have a rotating data set to address current issues of interest or debate and trends in practice.

For the results of AURORA to be more generalisable we require collaborators from all regions of Australia and New Zealand.
